Ottawa, CA: Kongsberg Geospatial presented a cheque for $25,000 to Tim Kluke, President and CEO of The Ottawa Hospital Foundation, in a modest ceremony at Kongsberg Geospatial’s Kanata office.

Kongsberg Geospatial celebrated their 9th year as part of an ongoing community campaign to improve cancer care in Ottawa that has raised over $340,000

The money was raised through employee contributions and matching contributions by the company to help fund cancer research for the Ottawa Hospital Cancer Centre.

This year, Kongsberg Geospatial marked the ninth year they’ve contributed to cancer research through a grass-roots campaign. The campaign was conducted in support of clinical trials by Dr. John Bell, who has been doing ground-breaking work in clinical applications of a combination of the Adenovirus, derived from the common cold virus and a modified version of the Maraba virus to attack tumours while leaving healthy cells unharmed. In addition to attacking tumours directly, the virus stimulates the body’s own immune system, making it more likely to recognize and attack cancerous cells on its own.

Over the past nine years, the Kongsberg Geospatial team has raised over $340,000 for cancer research and improvements to cancer care through a combination of employee-run initiatives and events, and a donation matching initiative by the company. The campaigns are managed entirely by workplace volunteers. This continued support to the Ottawa Hospital Foundation is a source of pride for Kongsberg Geospatial employees, according to company CFO, Tanya Hume. “We’re proud of the fact that we’re celebrating our ninth year campaigning on behalf of the Ottawa Hospital Foundation. We’ve had nine great years, and we’re looking forward to doing something extraordinary to celebrate the tenth year of our partnership with them in 2018.”

“We are so grateful that Kongsberg Geospatial has chosen The Ottawa Hospital as a charity of choice. Your support is making a difference in the lives of patients,” said Andrea Timlin, Development Officer with The Ottawa Hospital Foundation. “Their very generous $25k plus is going directly to the research that benefits our cancer patients for the best care and therapies that they duly deserve. No one should have to leave Ottawa to get world class care.”
